Lunchtime Provision

There are two options available to children during lunchtime at Alfred Sutton:

  • The school kitchen can provide a hot and healthy lunchtime meal with a choice of meat (not halal), vegetarian or jacket potato daily.  The menu changes on a three-week rota.  All children in Reception to the end of Year 2 are entitled to this meal free of charge under the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. A member of staff will take meal bookings during your child’s first few days here, however you will need to register an account with ParentPay and book online going forward – your child will come home with a registration letter during their first week, a member of the office team will be able to assist you if you require support with this.  Lunch bookings must be done before 8.00am on the morning your child needs lunch.  Any meals booked will be charged so if you know your child is bringing a packed lunch or is not coming to school due to illness it is important to cancel your child’s booking through ParentPay by 8.00am.

Children can bring a healthy packed lunch from home.  Please note we are a NUT FREE SCHOOL.  We have children in school who have severe nut allergies and touching or eating nut products can provoke a severe allergic reaction.  Please ensure NO nut products or foods are brought into school, this includes chocolate spread, peanut butter sandwiches, cereal bars, cakes and sweets. The cost of a school meal to children in Year 3 and above is currently £2.41 per day.  Some families may qualify for Free School Meals.  By completing and returning the Free School Meals Assessment form we will be able to ascertain whether your child is entitled to Free School Meals – this is important even if your child is in year 2 or below because by registering for free meals the school can earn an extra £1320 per year.  In addition, your child will receive a school sweatshirt or fleece and from Year 1 will be given a priority, paid for space in an extra-curricular club every term.

Personal Items

Please can all personal items including bags, coats, other outside clothing and footwear, be clearly named so that we can get the items back to you quickly if they are left behind. Any lost property is found around the school site is placed in the plastic bins on the left hand side of the infant hall.

Water Bottles

Please make sure your child has a clearly named water bottle with them each day. This must only contain water, no fruit juice or squash please.

Absence Reporting

Our preferred mode of absence notification is via WEDUC. You will be given an enrolment letter for WEDUC within your child’s first few days at school.  The WEDUC app can be downloaded free to your smart phone or tablet and will enable you to report your child’s absence from school, with just the touch of a button.  You can also email admin@alfredsutton.reading.sch.uk  or contact the school office on 0118 937 5411 and report the absence on option 1 (please note our phone lines are very busy in the morning)

Change in Usual Collection

Please let the class teacher know that there will be a different person collecting your child on the day and complete a ‘change in the usual collection’ form available in the school office. Please make sure the person collecting knows your password to make the collection go as smoothly as possible.  Please also ensure your personal contact information is up to date and notify us of any changes.

School Car Park

The car park is for use by staff only. Any parents seen using the car park at any time will be asked to remove their vehicle and park elsewhere, this is to ensure the safety of the children.  The only exception to this is before 8.15am and after 4pm when dropping off/collecting from after school club.

Keeping Parents Up to Date

To ensure you are kept up to date with events and activities at the school, parents need to download the WEDUC app.  Each term we send out a key dates letter with details of events and activities for the term ahead.  These dates are also uploaded onto the WEDUC calendar and the school website calendar.  Every fortnight the school newsletter is published on WEDUC; this is an opportunity to find out what has been going on at school.

After School Childcare and Extra-Curricular Clubs

Happy Time After school club offer wrap around care on the school site.  Breakfast club starts at 7.30am and Happy Time After school club staff drop your child in class at 8.50am.  For after-school care, children are collected from class at 3.10pm and you can collect your child any time before 6pm.  For latest prices and to book please visit Happy Times After School Club http://www.energy-kidz.co.uk/.  There are also a range of extra-curricular activities available for children in Years 1 – 6 each term.  This list is emailed to parents with details of how to book in advance of clubs starting.
